A Gyr falcon wearing a mini cam (Click to enlarge) The Majority of the work we do in at Hawking in Wales is training and flying raptors for scientific research. We work for a several universities but primarily for University of Oxford, zoology department. By attaching tiny cameras and IMUs (similar to the black box recorder used in commercial airliners) to a range of birds, scientists are able to record in minute detail the way our birds fly.

Experience has shown that the bigger birds are much better suited to research work especially if they are required to carry equipment.

All of our research work is monitored by the home office and we operate way above and beyond the required standards for husbandry and ethical treatment of our birds.
